[2009-12-08] Photos moved and reworked

I'm now using jalbum and the great Galleria skin for my online photo albums. All the new and shiny stuff can be found at photos.airrocket.net now. You'll also find some of the photos I recently took at NYC and Sweden there.

[2009-04-14] photos!

Ok, most of the Chile photos I took are ready. You can also find most of them at picasaweb and flickr.

[2009-04-05] back home, blog

I'm back in Germany. The trip was a great experience, we met many cool people and went to a number of great places. I started my personal (german) Chile travel blog with lots of photos some weeks ago. More Chile travel photos will be added to the photo section of this website soon, I'm currently weeding them out and preparing them.

[2009-02-16] gone for a few weeks (or: das glueck ist die ferne. jede ferne. immer.)

I'll fly to Chile tomorrow and I'm gonna stay there for 6 weeks. Recently got myself a new camera so expect some photos when I get back. :)

[2008-10-28] some new photos

I'm rather busy doing stuff at the lab at university atm but I finally found the time to upload some new photos. They were made at Berlin, Heidelberg and Frankfurt during the last few months.

[2008-09-07] playing games under linux, q2w, maps

I've expanded my little worpress installation over at airrocket.net with some articles that explain how to play various games under Linux. You can find them here: Playing games under Linux.

I also updated some stuff in the maps section during the last weeks. I'm now a member of the Quake2World team, so my next maps will be for that game. Check it out!

[2008-04-08] back to debian, Tunisia

Kubuntu isn't bad, but I wasn't really happy with it. I've been running Debian etch on my laptop for 8 weeks now, and it feels great.

I recently travelled to Tunisia, there's some photos over at my userhome at airrocket.net.

[2008-03-22] minor fixes and updates, moved stuff around

I corrected some small bugs and typos in various documents today. I also moved some stuff around. I didn't delete anything, so just have a look around if something you're looking for seems to be missing. There's a dedicated linux section now.

[2008-02-08] bioinformatics section

I'm still low on time, but I started a new section on bioinformatics.

[2007-09-02] it's been a while

I'm quite busy with university atm, but I recently found the time to install some new services on my server over at airrocket.net. I finally switched the VCS from darcs to subversion (should have done this sooner). A quake2 server and a quakeworld server are also available for your fragging pleasure.

[2007-07-16] mapping stuff

Lots of things have popped up in the mapping section during the last 3 months. It now has its own news section btw, so check it out if you're into quake engine games!
I also started writing some q3a mapreviews for LvL, they should be online soon.

[2007-04-13] beta of spirit2dm1 - awaiting resurrection

My Quake II map has reached beta stage. Get it here!

[2007-03-24] Quake 2, anyone?

Yes, I know I'm somewhat late but I started working on a Quake 2 deathmatch map over the weekend. It 'll be a one-atrium map using baseq2 textures. Doesn't even have a name yet, but a very early alpha will soon pop up in the maps section.

[2007-03-23] map-center OA mappack released!

A quake 3 mappack including 6 DM maps has just been released. The mappack features maps made by 5 mappers (including me). You may want to check out the thread at the map-center.com forums where the idea for this mappack started or grab it directly from this mirror I set up. The mappack works with both Quake 3 and OpenArena, I adapted my map 'spirit3t2 - better off dead' for it. Some screenshots can be seen in the thread at the OA forums.

[2007-03-10] wacom under linux, q3scripts

I updated my collection of bash scripts for quake mappers with a script that does the compilation for you. This was necessary because radiant 1.5 is such a bitch under linux and crashes most of the time when I try to compile a map.
My wacom graphire 4 grafic tablet was easy to setup under linux and works flawlessly with GIMP.

[2007-03-06] luxembourg photos

I just returned from a short trip to the city (and state) of Luxembourg. I took a few photos there and put some of them into the photo section.

[2007-03-03] sony ericsson k320i under linux

My old cell phone broke and I got myself a k320i today. Works well under linux (kubuntu 6.10, kernel 2.6.17) and can be addressed as /dev/ttyACM0. The kmobiletools package provides a nice interface to manage it under X11. You can also mount it like a memory stick and copy music or files to it easily.

[2007-02-16] new beta map

The first public beta of spirit3t3 - terror twilight for q3a/cpma is available for download in the maps section. Discussion is over at q3w and LvL-beta.

[2007-01-27] Boarderweek photos online

I had a closer look on the photos taken during a trip to the boarderweek at Val Thorens, France and decided to upload some of them to the photo section. They can be seen here.

[2007-01-16] OS switched

I bought some new hardware for my desktop PC and switched the OS from Debian to Kubuntu . Seems it was a good choice for a desktop system so far - it's hassle-free, based on Debian and looks cool. Give it a try, especially if you're new to the linux world!

I'm still running debian on the servers, of course ;-)

[2007-01-11] First beta release of spirit3t2 - better off dead

I recently released the first public beta of better off dead for q3a/cpma. The file can be downloaded in the maps section and is discussed in the beta section of LvL and at the Quake3World forums. Comments welcome!

[2007-01-10] New kernel config files for linux on the Thinkpad R51

I added some config files for modern linux kernels (currently 2.6.19.1) to the linux on r51 article. The configfile for 2.6.19.1 includes support for the Hauppage WinTV Nova T-Stick SE I recently bought.

[2006-12-06] Choosing linux system configuration at boottime

I've recently written an initscript that allows you to select the system settings of a linux box in the boot menu (think: laptop, dual-screen @ home and internal LCD only elsewhere).

More detailed info on what the script does (and the script itself, of course) are available here.

[2006-11-21] prejudice.pk3 reviewed on LvL

My latest q3a/cpma map 'Prejudice' has been reviewed on LvL recently. You can read the review and get the map on the LvL review site.

Update: The map has been improved and the file has been renamed, it is now known as spirit3t1 - prejudice II and available in the maps section.

[2006-09-07] bridge-to-rail, anyone?

Ever wanted to know how to do the bridge2rail jump at pro-q3dm6? Check out this pro-q3dm6 trick tutorial and fire up q3a. Don't know what the hell i'm talking about? Nevermind.

[2006-08-22] kernel config, birthday reminder, procmail

I recently wrote a perl script that reminds me of the birthdays of (ex-girl)-friends via email. It is designed to be run by cron and available in the coding section. Procmail now calls spamassassin and sorts mail on my server. Writing your first .procmailrc is *ahem* fun - here's my first try that did a very decent job so far. Last but not least, my Thinkpad R51 is now running linux 2.6.17.9, the updated kernel config file can be found here.

[2006-07-30] dfsp strafe jump training I

I used the afternoon to construct a new defrag training map, it's called dfsp-sjt1 and available from the dfsp-site.

[2006-07-28] sp1r1t.org

All subdomains should now work with both the sp1r1t.org domain and the sp1r1t.de domain.

[2006-07-01] rocket arena rocks

Our server does now run the quake 3 osp , cpma and ra3 mods. It also generates stats of the games played using vsp on a nightly basis and is now accessible via the domain airrocket.net.

[2006-06-14] even more fraggin' fun

The Drunken FlightStick Pro's proudly announce the existence of a clan quake 3 server . The box runs both vq3 and osp so join the fighting!
There's also a new quake dedicated server on linux howto . enjoy!

[2006-06-03] Sentimental Torpedo

A few friends and i started writing a 2D space shooter game in C++ using the libsdl . It is developed and tested on both linux and another OS written by some guys from redmond. We call the game Sentimental Torpedo and maintain the source repositories with the help of darcs .

[2006-05-09] prejudice.pk3 - final release

Prejudice has been tested and changed a lot during the last few weeks and is now in a state that deserves to be called final. Grab it at mapping.sp1r1t.de.

[2006-04-17] quake III tourney map released

A beta of my newest map for q3a called prejudice is available in the mapping section. You' ll also find a screenshot of the map there.

[2006-04-11] plasma-riot.pk3 for defrag released

A beta of plasma-riot, another vq3 run for defrag, has just been released by me. Grab the map in the quake 3 trick jumping section.

[2006-04-04] angkor texture set available

broar aka DFSP|hartzIV has made textures based on some of my Angkor photos . Feel free to use them in your maps. They are available under a Creative Commons License here!

[2006-04-01] deconstruction.pk3 for defrag released

A beta of deconstruction, a vq3 run for the q3a mod defrag, has just been released by broar and me. Check out the screenshot and grab the map in the quake 3 trick jumping section!

[2006-03-30] Cambodia photos!

I couldn't sleep after the flight, so i already prepared lots of the photos i shot during the journey to Thailand and Cambodia. Some of them are already available online! The galleries were created using digiKam .

[2006-03-29] back home

A 747 from Hong Kong, China, brought us back to Frankfurt International Airport some hours ago. Germany feels dead and strange after 5 weeks in south-eastern asia, hope i won't adapt to fast. We spent half the time in Thailand, the other half in Cambodia.

[2006-02-09] digiKam

Just received a nikon coolpix 7900. works with digiKam like a charm :-). The device (/dev/sda1) is simply mounted like a usb mass storage device. Be sure to grab some of the powerful plugins for digiKam if you want to give it a try.

[2006-02-08] new bash scripts

Some new bash scripts and config files mostly related to wireless lan stuff can be found in the networks section. Only 2 weeks and 4 tests to go till turn break!

[2006-01-28] q3config, trip to cambodia

Quake 3 still rocks and i recently took some time to tidy up the q3config.cfg i use for q3 and osp. Btw : i've just booked a flight to cambodia, where i'll spent the major part of the turn break :-)

[2005-11-26] dead links

Removed all dead links. university keeps me quite busy atm, so that's it for now. Looking forward to 22C3.

[2005-10-14] site structure again

It's done. The coding and privacy section are ready and the old navigation files are finally gone. Some snake photos i recently took are here .

[2005-09-13] site structure

The networks section is almost done, but i'm afraid to of the next linkcheck that i run...

[2005-07-22] cleaning up / new domain

I'm beginning to clean up. Btw : sp1r1t.org may also be used to reach this page since yesterday. Note that sp1r1t.org does not have any subdomains yet, so things like poetry.sp1r1t.org don't work atm.

[2005-07-13] site's a mess

The site's still a mess, i know. Won't have time to fix it within the next few days.

[2005-07-05] sorry...

The site is almost unusable atm and there are lots of broken links due to part 2 of my reorganisation. Will be fixed soon.

[2005-07-04] site structure

Changed site structure to make it easier to add contents. Subdomains added. Tieded up and moved lots of stuff around. More work to do this way, but i don't want a cms for various reasons.

[2005-06-20] skewl's out

Passed exams, removed old stuff from school. Usefull stuff i kept went to fiae.sp1r1t.org.
